Themes

Our travels currently revolve around four main “worlds” — though this might easily grow, just like our routes tend to. These aren’t strict geographical borders, but rather states of mind. Each has its own flavor, rhythm, and brand of absurdity.

Austro-Hungarian Tales
Here I usually tell father-and-son stories, with a dose of Monarchy nostalgia and that familiar Central-European irony. Plenty of adventure, just in a slightly different tone — less vodka, more history lessons, and usually someone explaining at the end why “that’s not exactly how it happened in the textbook.”

Near-Eastern Adventures
These blend family trips, friendly getaways, and border-town coffee breaks. The stories come in mixed forms — sometimes with the kids, sometimes without, and sometimes in places where we’re not entirely sure which country we’re actually in.

Tales from the Silk Road
Here the logistics get serious: longer journeys, more planning, and far more surprises. These are the kinds of trips where your passport gets its own pouch, and the itinerary has at least three versions — because something always comes up.

Balkan Tales
The Balkans are our familiar playground. The culture feels close, the people are friendly — and if not, well, there’s always a toast to break the ice. These are the lighter, more spontaneous trips — full of stories all the same.

Content

Our content follows the rhythm of our travels — how a simple idea becomes a journey, then an experience.

Quick Posts
When something catches our eye and sparks an idea. Maybe it’ll grow into a full story, or maybe it’ll just remain a single flash — like a photo that started a thought.

Legends
When that flash turns into research. We start reading, digging, mapping, rummaging through archives. This is where theories and legends are born — the “one day we have to see this” kind of lists.

Experiences / Insights
When an idea finally turns into a real trip. We go, we try, we burn ourselves (sometimes literally), then come home and try to make sense of it all. Once everything falls into place, the story gets written.

Itineraries
One of my favorite formats — where theory meets reality. Planned routes always change, because nothing ever goes exactly as expected. These Itineraries are posts made to give something extra to our supporters — detailed destinations, sights, restaurants, notes, and maps.
They’ll save you a lot of time if you ever decide to set off yourself.

Museums
The heart of every trip. Wherever we go, we try to document the local museums in detail — cases, artifacts, and labels. These become our large online museum galleries, available in full to our supporters. Anyone who supports us can virtually explore half the Balkans, the Caucasus, and Central Asia.

Support

If you enjoy our stories, you can support us through Patreon. Your support not only helps us keep traveling, but also gives you access to exclusive content —such as detailed itineraries, full museum galleries, and behind-the-scenes materials.

Patreon support is not a product purchase — it doesn’t come with a physical item or service in return. Supporters simply gain access privileges to our content and become part of the Central-European travel workshop that keeps the Absurd Empire spirit alive.
