Bekaa Valley

🖋️ Sdkfz251 · 📅 January 5, 2026 · 🏷️ Tales from the middle east, Daily program, Lebanon

Toward the Bekaa Valley, we set off with a driver — a choice that completely changed the rhythm of the day. Our attention shifted from navigating traffic to simply observing the road itself: crossing the mountains as the landscape gradually widens and opens into a long, fertile plain.

Vineyards, cultivated fields, and small towns line the route, while mountain ranges remain constantly visible in the background. The pace feels calmer, more contemplative, yet the historical weight of the region is unmistakable.

Here, the daily itinerary is not about rushing from one stop to another, but about distance and perspective — deep inside Lebanon, far removed from the world of the sea.

This daily itinerary is available as supporter-only content.

From the Explorer tier onward, all completed travel plans are accessible in exchange for support — meaning not only this destination, but the entire route collection is available in a practical, ready-to-use format.

Baalbek Roman Ruins

Roman city ruins of Baalbek

The ruins of Baalbek form one of the most monumental temple complexes of the Roman world, outstanding across the entire Middle East for their scale and preservation. The temples dedicated to Jupiter, Bacchus, and Venus feature massive columns and legendary stone blocks — including some of the largest worked stones in the world — representing the peak of imperial grandeur. Rising above the Bekaa Valley, the site is equally impressive from religious, military, and engineering perspectives.
